The African elephant is today the largest terrestrial animal, it can measure up to 4m high by around 7 tonnes. He lives mainly in sub -Saharan Africa but also in northern South Africa. This mammal is easily recognizable thanks to its long ivory defenses, which can weigh them up to 100kg and its trunk which it uses to feed. Unlike his cousin, the Asian elephant, he has larger ears, less hair and a more domed back. The species is now declining due to poaching but also of the progressive destruction of its habitat.
