Papo Cave bear (2017)

The cave bear is today an extinguished species but which has long cohabited with the brown bears that we know today. If the two species were similar on certain points, the cave bear was physically more imposing, up to up to 1.30 meters on its four legs and 3.50 meters when it stood. He weighed the triple of the weight of a brown bear, or 450 kg. Lonely in nature, the cave bear passed spring to eat and thus be able to hiberne throughout the winter. It was not uncommon for some to perish during this period for lack of food. Many bones have also been found at the bottom of the caves, hence their name "bears of the caves".
