The Caouanne turtle is a large swimmer essentially attending the temperate waters of the globe. It measures approximately one meter and weighs almost 100 kg. Its flattened shell consists of a reddish backstroke contrasting with its yellow plastron. She has a long head as well as a horny beak very useful for grinding her food (corals, crustaceans, molluscs, small fish ...). Its large legs are perfectly suited to swimming on the high seas. The anterior is used for propulsion while the hinders play the role of rudder. Grouped by the hundreds, the Turtles Caouannes migrate and travel several thousand kilometers to reach the Ponte place. Did you know that during the laying, the Caouanne turtle deposits more than a hundred eggs which it covers sand? Each female only lays every two or three years.
