Ornithorynque is a mammal living in the lakes and rivers in eastern Australia and Tasmania. It is one of the five species of monotrèmes, the only oviparous mammals, that is to say that lay eggs instead of giving birth to small living. The ornithorynque has a duck beak, webbed legs and a flattened tail resembling that of beavers. It measures between 40 and 50 cm and can weigh 2.4 kg. He can live up to 21 years in nature, but in captivity his life expectancy varies between 10 and 15 years. The ornithorynque lives in lakes and small rivers. It spends an average of twelve hours a day to eat. The ornithorynque being oviparous, he needs a burrow to lay and protect the eggs. The burrow can reach twenty meters deep.
